通過觀察的外觀，可初步護坡塑料模具鑒別出護坡塑料模具制品所屬大類:熱塑性護坡塑料模具，熱固性護坡塑料模具或彈性體護坡塑料模具。一般熱塑性護坡塑料模具有結晶和無定形兩類。結晶性塑料外觀呈半透明，乳濁狀或不透明，只有在薄液壓鋼壩  膜狀態呈透明狀，硬度從柔軟到角質。無定形一般為無色，在不加添加劑時為全透明，硬度從硬于角質橡膠狀。熱固性護坡塑料模具通常含有填且不透料明，如不含填料時為透明。彈性體具橡膠狀手感，有一定的拉伸率。
